Summary: |
This webpage describes the potential health risks of nanomaterials and safe handling methods. Presently, it is uncertain whether nanomaterials can pass through skin so inhalation and dermal exposures should be prevented. Gloves should be worn when handling particulates and solutions containing nanoparticles. There are currently no government occupational exposure standards for nanomaterials. Also, some material safety data sheets (MSDSs) have incorrect information because they refer, for example, to the graphite exposure standard when carbon nanotubes have different properties than graphite. Safe work practices must be implemented until the exact nature of the risks are known. |
