The National Nanotechnology Strategy seeks to ensure that Australia will develop nanotechnology in a productive and socially responsible manner. As part of this strategy, The Standing Committee on State Development held an inquiry as to the capability of the Australian regulatory frameworks to manage the new issues of nanotechnology. This report contains the findings and conclusions of the committee. A broad range of issues were addressed, including possible moratoriums, regulatory clarity, occupational health and safety, labeling requirements, nanotoxicology research, and the coordination of science research. Recommendations included increased research grants and a mandatory reporting scheme for companies using nanomaterials. |
