Thailand's National Nanotechnology Center was founded in August 2003 under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science and Technology. The Center aims to establish, support, and promote nanotechnology development in Thailand. At the third Thailand Nanotechnology Conference on December 21-22, 2009, the Center's executive director announced that a 2007 national strategic plan had achieved initial success in developing new textile, chemical, and medical nano products. The plan calls for a $9 million annual budget for nanotechnology, and by 2013 aims to have nanotech products comprise 1% of GDP. The government has also established seven associate centers in Thai cities with 400 researchers, and the goal of recruiting 100 additional researchers each year until 2013. |
